Formerly a dingy backwater, over the last decade the "Street of Peace" has become Riga's prime hipster hangout. Money is
inevitably poshing the place up, but life can still be found on this self-absorbed mile. Rub the vibe in the quirky shops and cafes, then join the joggers and dog walkers for an
existential jaunt through the abandoned Great
Cemetery(Lielie kapi). If you brought the kids, Laima Chocolate Museum is the candy bomb.
Food & drink: Nibble luscious cakes in girly Mierā cafe (Miera iela 9), get sozzled in brewpub Labietis(Aristīda Briāna iela 9a-2) or student watering hole Taka(Miera iela 10) which boasts over 80 beers (see the photo), or go full yuppy with a costly latte at Rocket Bean Roastery(Miera iela 29/31).
Transport: Miera is on the fringes of the city centre - don't be lazy now, walk or bike.
